Minimum Qualifications Minimal qualifications for taking the open-competitive examination: Must be licensed and currently registered as a Physician Assistant by the New York State Education Department or possess a limited permit to practice as a Physician Assistant in New York State. If appointed with a limited permit, the candidate has one year from the date of their permit was issued to obtain their license.
