Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications G-14 – Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, engineering, biostatistics, public health, epidemiology, health informatics, data analytics, public administration, government analytics, social sciences or a related degree and one year of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.

G-18 – Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, engineering, biostatistics, public health, epidemiology, health informatics, data analytics, public administration, government analytics, social sciences or a related degree and two years of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field OR a master’s degree in one of the above fields and one year of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field.

Preferred Qualifications
Work experience or coursework in statistics, mathematics, health economics, health informatics, epidemiology, health or public policy, health administration, or health services research. Experience with research studies or projects including: data collection and manipulation, data modeling, and presentation of research findings. Experience with large administrative and/or clinical data sets. Proficiency with SAS, SQL, and Microsoft Office. Excellent written and communication skills.

Duties Description The Research Scientist will be assigned to the Division of Health Care Innovation, in the New York State Department of Health’s Office of Quality and Patient Safety (OQPS). The Research Scientist will conduct data analysis and research related to the evaluation of the NYS Patient Centered Medical Home Program (PCMH) and the State Health Information Network for NY (SHIN-NY). Specific duties include: utilizing OQPS and external data sources to evaluate the PCMH program; providing data support to the Health IT Enabled Quality Measurement workgroup; presenting and reporting research and evaluation results to internal and external stakeholders; and, assisting in literature searches, report writing and manuscripts preparation for peer review publication.

If appointed as an Assistant Research Scientist, the incumbent will assist other research staff with these duties; if appointed as a Research Scientist 1 level, the incumbent will be expected to perform these duties under general supervision.

Additional Comments Appointment level will be determined based on the qualifications and skills of the selected candidate. Permanent, full-time, non-competitive appointment.
