Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications:
Admission to the Bar of the State of New York and experience in the practice of law involving privacy and consumer protection preferred. Superior writing skills, an interest in technology and related legal issues, and organizational skills are also required.
Appointment method:
This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class. As such, the incumbent of this position would serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
Duties Description The Department of Financial Services (DFS) is seeking to fill a Privacy Attorney position within our Office of General Counsel. The preferred candidate should specialize in the area of privacy and consumer protection laws in the online and tech environment. The ideal candidate would have an understanding and/or experience in technology and related legal issues, privacy, and data security. Candidate should be capable of providing technical expertise to assist with investigating and prosecuting high-profile privacy and data security breaches; online consumer protection matters; identifying areas of particular concern for data privacy and security, and helping guide DFS policy decisions relating to the Internet and technology.
Additional Comments Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $3,026 annual downstate adjustment
Appointment to this position is pending Division of Budget approval to fill.
