Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Education Program Assistant 1.
Section 70.1 Transfer to Education Program Assistant 1: One year of permanent competitive or 55 b/c service in a title SG-13 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Section 70.1 Transfer to Education Trainee: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-13 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Section 70.4 Transfer: Candidates may be eligible for transfer to Education Trainee if they possess a bachelor’s degree AND have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-9 or higher AND have standing on the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) eligible list or Professional Administration Trainee Transition (PATT) eligible list.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates who are reachable on the New York State Education Department’s Public Administration Trainee Transition (PATT) eligible list or Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) eligible list may be considered for appointment.

Duties Description The New York state Education Departments’ Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Education Program Assistant 1 position in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program office. This Office is responsible for the oversight of Driver and Traffic Safety Education (DTSE) program approvals and all DTSE courses offered by public and non-public secondary schools, colleges, and BOCES. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Process applications and amendments for DTSE program approval;
Process driving teacher (MV-283) applications;
Track teacher and driving instructor professional credentials;
Communicate with DMV to share information regarding program approval and driver qualifications;
Process requests for driving teachers’ replacement MV-283 cards;
Maintain program database, electronic files and long-term physical records;
Provide direct technical assistance to public and non-public secondary schools, colleges, and BOCES;
Prepare reports, application materials, and correspondence Microsoft Office applications; and
Support other CTE Office protocols as required
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Transfers to Education Trainee 1 and appointments from the PATT or PCO list require successful completion of a two-year traineeship which leads to the title of Education Program Assistant 1, SG-14.
The salary above applies to candidates appointed to Education Program Assistant 1, SG-14. The hiring rate for candidates appointed to Education Trainee starts at $38,464, and for current NYS employees, is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Verification of degree and/or transcripts will be required for all candidates at the time of interview.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $58,028 based on annual performance advances.
