Minimum Qualifications We are seeking a seasoned attorney with at least four to five (4-5) years of solid trial experience to defend the state in these tort actions, from commencement through trial. Civil or criminal trial experience is required; experience litigating personal injury actions is preferred but not necessary for those with extensive trial experience. Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that attorneys in the Office be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
Duties Description The Claims Bureau of the New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in New York City is seeking an experienced trial attorney for the Torts Section. The Claims Bureau is a trial bureau that represents the State of New York and its agencies in the Court of Claims and its employees in New York State Supreme Court in a wide variety of litigation, including but not limited to premises liability, highway design, false arrest and imprisonment, labor law, contract, and motor vehicle accidents.
