Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree or higher and four years of experience providing assistance, direction or support to improve, protect, and preserve the rights of workers and/or immigrants, or assisting clients in understanding and participating in public or private programs. The experience must include some involvement in public education, communications, or community outreach activities. A masters’ degree may substitute for two years of the experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Spanish language proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing.
• Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:
As Project Coordinator, you would serve as a liaison for the Department of Labor, agricultural employers, immigrant workers and advocacy groups. The incumbent will:
• Serve as a liaison with farmers and develop and conduct workshops to enhance farmers’ understanding of their responsibilities under state and federal laws, rules and regulations
• Provide support to farmers in their need for qualified farm workers and their participation in the H-2A or similar guest worker program.
• Assist in the processing of H-2A & H-2B job order applications from NYS employers.
• Work in partnership with Department of Labor programs to identify and implement measures to be more responsive to the needs of employers in the agricultural industry.
• Serve as a liaison with immigrant workers and related advocacy groups to ensure equitable access to Department programs, services, and facilities.
• Develop and conduct workshops to enhance immigrants’ understanding of their rights under state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
• Participate in meetings and community events to furnish and obtain information related to immigrant workers issues and concerns, with an emphasis in the agricultural industry.
• Work in partnership with Department of Labor programs to identify and implement measures to be more responsive to the needs of immigrant workers.
• Promote the use of all DOL programs and services with an emphasis in protecting the rights, safety and dignity of immigrant workers.
• Prepare reports and memoranda outlining immigrant needs and concerns, describing the department’s outreach activities, and analyzing and evaluating outcomes.
• Maintain involvement with Department programs in the investigation of allegations of Labor Law violations related to immigrant workers.
• educate the public about what labor trafficking is, how to identify trafficking victims, and the U & T-Visa programs.
• Supervise and train Immigrant Workers’ Specialist 1, grade 18’s as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
