Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Two Positions
Monday thru Friday 2pm-10:30pm (first 2 months of position will have revised hours of Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm for Training).
Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State Driver’s license required
Duties Description Ability to perform journey-level work in one trade and skilled and semiskilled level work in maintenance, repair and installation tasks in a University setting including but not limited to plumbing, electrical and carpentry; experience in repair and maintenance of plumbing fixtures and equipment used in labs, bathrooms, kitchens and machine rooms; Ability to understand the workings of the Fire, Water and Drainage system on campus; Ability to read blue prints and or plans, in new installations, alteration and repair work, as per plumbing codes; Experience installing a variety of metal and non-mental pipe and fittings; threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, mechanical and cemented joints; Electrical experience working on hot water heater and pumps; Ability to use hand and power tools for carpentry, building small forms and mixing concrete; Ability to troubleshoot and light gas equipment, assemble materials, tools and equipment required to complete the work according to plan; ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 100 pounds, carrying ladders and materials; ability to work in areas of heat and cold (indoors and outdoors), working from ladders, scaffolds and lifts, work at heights 35’+ and in confined spaces; working knowledge of relevant building and safety codes (OSHA and ADA); plan and execute assignments with considerable independence, work overtime as required for emergencies and campus events; ability to work with a computerized maintenance management system; ability to wear a negative pressure respirator and pass a fit test; willingness to be certified in ACM materials handling including lead, and attend training on new equipment and building systems; ability to determine repairs and replacement of equipment, plan work, organize apprentices and helpers with materials and equipment for projects and maintain stocked inventory of materials required; Valid New York state Driver's license required.
