Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation of equipment noted as appropriate for this class and the possession of a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle operated. Possession of a Class A CDL at time of appointment is preferred.

Duties Description Construction Equipment Operators operate a variety of self-propelled equipment in the construction, repair and maintenance of State lands and grounds. They also maintain their equipment by performing specific routine
maintenance tasks.
- Perform construction and maintenance work on State facilities. Work to include truck trail maintenance, road grading, mowing, excavation, etc.
- Transport heavy equipment via truck-trailer to the work sites.

Equipment to operate will include but is not limited to:
- Skid-Steers/Track Loaders
- Backhoes
- Excavators
- Wheel Loaders
- Vibratory Rollers
- Tractors
- Bulldozers
- Heavy Truck and Trailers (CDL)
This position will perform most of their job duties in the outdoor work environment.

Additional Comments Must a have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel, overnight travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.

This is a temporary position currently funded through 3/31/22, with a possibility of continuing after that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work hours and schedule may vary and will be discussed at interview.
