Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Permanent service as a Senior Recreation Therapist
OR
2. Eligible to 70.1 transfer into a Senior Recreation Therapist title.


*In the event there is not a valid eligible list, candidates who meet the following open competitive qualifications may be qualified for a provisional appointment:

Either 1. a master’s degree in therapeutic recreation, creative arts therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, or drama therapy;

Or 2. a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation, creative arts therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, or drama therapy, AND one year of post-degree professional experience* in planning and administering a therapeutic program which involved developing and coordinating therapeutic activities for geriatric patients/residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with psychiatric disabilities, individuals who are physically challenged, or individuals in treatment for alcoholism and substance abuse;

Or 3. a bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, adaptive physical education, art, dance, music, drama, recreation education with a concentration in therapeutic recreation, or recreation and leisure studies with a concentration in therapeutic recreation AND two years of post-degree professional experience as described above*;

Or 4. have one year of post-degree professional experience as described above* AND be one of the following:

a. certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC); or

b. registered with the American Art Therapy Association as an Art Therapist; or

c. registered with the American Dance Therapy Association as a Dance Therapist; or

d. certified by the American Music Therapy Association as a Music Therapist; or

e. registered by the National Association for Drama Therapy as a Registered Drama Therapist.

*Substitution: A master’s degree in adaptive physical education, art, dance, music, drama, recreation education with a concentration in therapeutic recreation, or recreation and leisure studies with a concentration in therapeutic recreation may be substituted for one year of the post-degree professional experience described above.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Day Habilitation offers numerous opportunities from which to choose, the selected candidate will need to develop, plan and implement activities based on Person Centered planning approach, promoting recreational activities, social skills groups, leisure skills groups, sensory based activities and community inclusion opportunities.

Consideration will be given to interest, demonstrated skills in curriculum development and implementation, experience/success in establishing linkages with the community to promote individuals’ inclusion, and expertise relevant to the population to be served.

It is the philosophy of Day Habilitation that courses offered will be integrated in the least restrictive environment and in the community setting as much as possible. Knowledge of the Transformation agenda and Person-Centered Planning will be needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Selected candidate will design, develop, implement, and deliver recreational therapy services to affect the physical, mental and/or social well-being of individuals attending State Operated Day Services.
Incumbents are responsible for the organization and direction of one or more therapeutic recreation programs including, but not limited to, sports, dance, drama, music, art, and social activities. Incumbents may supervise other recreation program staff in the design, development, and/or delivery of recreation therapy services.

Develop and implement goal-oriented recreation programs for the JN Adam Day Hab and the North Road Day Hab. Identify current needs for RT programs at each Day Hab with each Day Habilitation Program Coordinator.

Complete Recreational Therapy Assessments as needed. Aid with planning and coordinating large scale events at Day Habs. Provide monthly recreation calendar for specific programs.

Selected candidate will at times need to provide supervision coverage for the building and/or assist with transportation. Completion of other assigned tasks based on the operational needs of the site location.
