Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Must have a valid driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
A willingness to learn, and general knowledge of the natural environment and enthusiasm to share that with others.
Must be able to maintain a positive attitude when performing physical work in a wide range of weather conditions and participate in problem solving as a team.
It is essential to interact professionally with a wide array of Parks staff and patrons.
Applicants interested in the long-term Trail Technician position should have experience in at least one of three categories: handling chainsaws, carpentry, or sustainable trails.
Duties Description The two summer Trails Technicians will work closely with two long-term Trail Technicians. All trail staff will work under the Regional Trails Coordinator and alongside Regional Invasive Species Technicians and Student Conservation Association interns to mitigate the degradation of trails and public lands by building trail structures, resurfacing, and rerouting where necessary. Other duties may include: educating the public on good trail stewardship, down and hazard tree removal, invasive plant removal and invasive pest monitoring, organizing volunteer cleanups, and working with Minna Anthony Common Nature Center staff to improve the immediate grounds of the building.
Additional Comments Preferred qualities include coursework in biology, ecology, environmental studies, natural resources management, or other relevant discipline such as forestry, conservation biology, etc. Some knowledge of invasive New York flora and fauna, functional orienteering skills and Leave No Trace is preferred but not required.
Location: Wellesley Island State Park & Keewaydin State Park
with regional travel in state vehicle.
