Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Valid NYS CDL Class B or Class A Driver's license required. May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators
Duties Description The Motor Vehicle Operator would be assigned to the Grounds Dept. and would be the driver for the weekend garbage truck (trash pickups for uptown/downtown campuses are required). This Motor Vehicle Operator would also operate large dump trucks, a street sweeper, garbage and recycling trucks, and large snow plow/salter vehicles during the week as required. A Motor Vehicle Operator assigned to the Grounds Dept. must maintain a Commercial Driver’s License - Class B to legally operate these vehicles.
Maintain daily vehicle and fuel logs, as well as weekly Vehicle Inspection Reports as required by the Grounds Department.
Will provide operational support in maintenance and repair of roads, sidewalks, lawns, trees, and planting beds; perform light maintenance on trash & recycle dumpsters (grease fittings/wheel replacements) and regular cleaning of vehicles.
Provide operational support for campus events including Commencement, Open House, Homecoming and others.
As directed, operate snow plows/salters and other equipment for snow and ice events.
Is expected to work all Mandatory OT as directed, and volunteer for pre-scheduled OT as needed.
Must be on time and prepared for the workday. Expected to act in a professional manner and maintain a good time and attendance record. Requests for leave must be submitted in a timely manner.
Appointment will be contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment testing for controlled substance use as mandated by the Federal Highway Administration Omnibus Transportation Act of 1991 (OTETA). Employment cannot commence until notification for successful completion of this pre-employment testing is received. Please note that in addition to the initial testing required by OTETA, the Act further requires that the University conduct pre-assignment (promotion), reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, follow-up and return to duty drug and alcohol testing throughout the period of employment.
