Minimum Qualifications
CURRENT STATE EMPLOYEE:
Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as a Public Information Specialist 1; OR current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as a Senior Engineering Research Editor and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

GENERAL PUBLIC CANDIDATES:
Individuals with current 55b/c status who meet the qualifications listed below are encouraged to apply. You must supply a copy of your 55b/c eligibility letter when responding to this announcement and include a detailed resume.
1. A bachelor’s degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, or digital marketing AND two years of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media
OR
2. A master’s degree in media, new media, English, communications, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, films, TV productions, or digital marketing AND one year of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media;
OR
3. Six years of experience in public or governmental relations, and/or in writing or producing content for various media.
Duties Description
• Draft news releases, scripts, annual reports, and other informational materials.
• Proofread, rewrite, and edit documents submitted by others for style, content, and conformity to agency standards and policy.
• Prepare/attend presentations, and prepare displays for use at fairs, conferences, conventions, seminars, and training sessions.
• Answer inquiries from the public concerning agency programs.
• Maintain schedule of agency events.
• Coordinate public appearances for agency staff to explain programs and initiatives.
• Review and assist in drafting appropriate responses to inquiries received through various channels, including social media.
• Manage the agency’s social media outlets.
• Create content and update agency’s website as appropriate.
• Travel may be required.
Experience with Drupal content management software and proficiency in Excel is preferred.
