Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a master’s degree in Social Work AND at least four years of experience as a Social Worker in public schools AND possess the New York State School Social Worker certification AND be currently licensed and registered by New York State as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). A Ph.D. in Social Work or Education may substitute for one year of experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the field of education, experience with presentation/training, experience working with the community schools model, a strong knowledge of the impact of social emotional and mental health needs on learning, or experience collaborating with other student and family support agencies and community-based organizations.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Higher Education is seeking candidates for a Project Coordinator position in the Office of Student Support Services (SSS). Under the supervision of the Supervisor Education Programs, the incumbent will be responsible for providing leadership, collaboration, and training with other licensed and certified colleagues across professional fields in the development of NYSED’s framework for a whole school, whole community, whole child (WSCC) approach to local education agencies (LEAs) across the state. The WSCC framework is student centered and emphasizes the role of the community in supporting schools and families in understanding the connections between health, mental health, and academic achievement, as well as the importance of evidence-based school policies and practices, as outlined in NYSED’s American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP-ESSER) State Plan. The Project Coordinator will liaise regularly with other licensed and certified professionals in schools as a member of NYSED’s team providing support, instruction, and technical assistance. Duties of these positions include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assist in the coordination of, and collaboration with, NYSED’s Child-Centered Support Services (CCSS) advisory group of professionals (formerly the Pupil Personnel Services, or PPS, group);
• Develop a professional development and training plan to facilitate and increase the awareness and understanding of NYSED and LEA leaders, as well as other stakeholders, of the WSCC framework and its role in in the administration and instructional mission of LEAs and individual schools at all grade levels;
• Collaborate with the CCSS group in the development of guidance for LEAs engaged in voluntary interorganizational learning cohorts focused on specific problems of practice emerging from the identified needs of students and families due to the pandemic;
• Attend remote and in-person meetings, conduct webinars, and visit NYSED, LEA, or other sites;
• Possess a complete understanding of State and Federal student privacy laws and regulations, and collaborate with the CCSS advisory group, NYSED leadership, SSS staff, and personnel of other NYSED program offices to advise and advocate for the clear understanding of the protection of the privacy rights as NYSED, LEAs, and BOCES implement initiatives, programs, and services to support adults and students;
• Collaborate closely with other professional staff, and those working with social emotional learning, mental health, and school climate and safety;
• Collaborate with professional colleagues, staff of the SSS office to design a plan focused on LEA staff and student well-being; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a temporary appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree and work experience will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position will require up to 50% Statewide travel.
* Leads to a maximum salary of $105,681 based on annual performance advances.
