Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Possess current certification in Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Waterfront Skill.
Vision requirement: Minimum of 20/70 uncorrected vision in both eyes and be correctable to 20/40. Candidates tested at a vision level below 20/40 in either one or both eyes must correct to a minimum of 20/40 with 20/20 preferred.
For Appointment: Must pass a practical exam in Lifesaving and CPR skills. Submit a current doctor's certification that you are physically capable of performing lifeguarding duties.

Duties Description Will be responsible for conducting lifeguard testing and training across the Adirondack and Catskill Forest Preserve. Lifeguard testing includes weekend work and travel. Will be responsible for providing training to lifeguard staff including CPR/AED mandates, Bloodborne Pathogen training, emergency action protocol, spinal management, as well as DEC regulations. Will also be responsible for staffing and recruiting of lifeguard personnel as well as conducting inspections for DEC beaches. Will prepare reports, make recommendations, and will take immediate corrective action where hazards exists. Maintains files for all DEC beaches that will include inspection reports, Emergency Action Plans, beach layout maps and updating and revising the Water Safety Manual. Ordering, inventorying uniforms and other recreation program administrative duties.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel and overnight travel may be required.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration through 3/31/22. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to date listed. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
