Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have six years of museum production experience, with at least four years of experience in the production skill areas including audiovisual, preparation, fabrication, graphic design, media arts or imaging services within or for a cultural institution including museums, performing arts organizations, higher education institutions, and interpretive sites. A maximum of two years of appropriate training may substitute for the work experience on a year-for-year basis.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for a Museum Exhibit Specialist 2 position in the New York State Museum. Under the direction of the Director, Museum Exhibits, the incumbent of this position will perform skilled tasks related to the graphic design of exhibits within the NYS Museum. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Schedule and maintain workflow on multiple projects;
• Oversee designs and production of graphic designs to maintain quality standards for all projects within the NYS Museum;
• Work collaboratively with other Department staff to design interpretive graphics, special visual elements, gallery text panels, identification labels, signage, brochures, and educational and promotional materials;
• Ensure all designs are made ready for digital output and press-ready for processing by the graphic production staff;
• Prepare and monitor budget for Museum Exhibition Graphic Design Unit;
• Order supplies and equipment, as needed, to maintain necessary inventory levels; and
• Supervise staff.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. * Leads to a maximum salary of $70,946 based on annual performance advances.
