Engineer Trainee (Electrical)*, NS-18:
Applicants must have a qualifying*** bachelor’s degree or higher, OR proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and at least one year of full-time engineering experience in electrical systems.

Assistant Engineer (Electrical), Grade 20:
Applicants must have proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE), AND either: a qualifying*** bachelor’s degree or higher OR at least one year of full-time engineering experience in electrical systems.

*Upon successful completion of at least one year of the traineeship and passing the FE exam, trainees may be advanced to the Assistant Engineer (Electrical), Grade 20. Trainees who do not obtain their FE by the end of the two-year traineeship will be removed from the Trainee position.

Duties Description The Assistant Engineer (Electrical) will work in the Electric Safety and Reliability Section of the Office of Electric, Gas & Water, and will perform engineering duties related to electrical systems projects including, but not limited to:
• Inspecting/auditing utility facilities and testing processes to determine if companies are properly maintaining their systems and are in compliance with Electric Safety Standards.
• Investigating electric system failures and complaints to ensure system reliability.
• Reviewing capital improvement plans for adequacy in maintaining reliability, increasing resilience, and improving automation capabilities, all while doing so in a cost-effective manner.
• Providing engineering analysis for rate proceedings.
• Preparing staff positions through memoranda, testimony and exhibits or consensus meetings.
• Reviewing utility preparedness to reliably meet projected system summer peak loads.
• Providing engineering analysis and input to support achievement of the State’s clean energy goals in a reliable and cost-effective manner.
