Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as an Administrative Specialist 1, Grade 18, OR a New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a title eligible for transfer to Administrative Specialist 1 under Section 52.6 or Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
OR: Professional Career Opportunities (PCO): Active list candidate on PCO eligible list #26-570 with a score of 100 or higher.
OR: Qualified 55 B/C candidate in possession of a bachelor's or higher degree.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, communication, and writing skills, and will be able to work independently and handle multiple priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and SharePoint is preferred.
Duties Description The Administrative Specialist 1 will be part of the Division of Nutrition's Employees Support Unit with a wide range of responsibilities to support leadership and staff by completing administrative responsibilities focused on human resources, staff development, and support for over 200 central office staff. These activities include but are not limited to the creation and implementation of a new employee orientation; managing updates to the Division's SharePoint site; promoting training and continuing education opportunities for staff; coordination and tracking of probationary reports and performance evaluations; performance improvement initiatives, and other cross-program initiatives. The Administrative Specialist 1 will assist with personnel transactions and tracking; coordinate hiring packets, contact candidates for interviews, maintain personnel records, and update policies and procedures that document this work. In addition, the Administrative Specialist 1 will be cross trained to support in office operational responsibilities under the purview of the Employees Service Unit.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time. Occasional travel throughout New York State to areas not served by public transportation may be required (5%). You may be asked for a Social Security Number to verify your transfer eligibility.
Depending on candidate qualifications, position may be filled at the Administrative Specialist Trainee 1 or Trainee 2 levels. Traineeships are non-statutory, resulting in Salary Grade 18 upon completion.
