Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications The New York State Division of Veterans’ Services in the near future will assign a Veterans Benefits Advisor 1 to staff the counseling office on 10 Richmond Terrace State Island.
Employees who have 55 b/c status in the posted title and are interested in reassignment are encouraged to respond to this posting.

1. Two years of active military duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act AND

Substitution: College credits may be substituted for up to two years for the required experience at the rate of 30 semester credit hours equaling one year of experience.
*Travel is required. Appointees to these positions are required to have a driver’s license valid in New York State to operate a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.

Duties Description As a Veterans Benefits Advisor 1, you will assist, advise, and advocate for veterans and their families as well as survivors on concerns relating to their rights and benefits, including matters pertaining to educational training, military law, employment and reemployment, health, medical and rehabilitation services and facilities, and the provisions of laws relating to veterans’ rights and privileges. In addition, you will serve as the lead administrator of the New York State Blind Annuity, Gold Star Parent and Supplemental Burial Programs. You may also supervise support staff. Other duties as directed.
Additional Comments Location Pay: $3,026.
