Duties Description New York State Senator Michelle Hinchey seeks an individual who is a quick learner and self-starter to join her team as a Constituent Services and District Liaison. This person will be responsible for maintaining a Constituent Services portfolio by working directly with and helping constituents, as well as proactively being engaged in significant and long-term issues by town and across geographic areas of the district.
As part of the Constituent Services team, this person will participate in verbal communications with constituents and answer casework correspondence. They will maintain a specific portfolio by issue area and participate in Mobile Office Hours and other events.
Responsibilities of this position also include monitoring situations across the district and conducting fact finding missions. It requires that this person remains engaged at the local government level and identify important issues being considered and/or debated by municipalities throughout the district so the Senator and her office are able to learn about issues quickly and help reach solutions.
In this dynamic role, you will:
•Act as a first point of entry for the Senate office including answering constituent phone calls and correspondence, meeting with constituents, and serving as a liaison with state and local agencies
•Work directly with constituents and community members to deliver responsive and timely casework support
•Maintain up-to-date files on assigned casework, prepare periodic reports for the District Director on pending cases, and assess casework for problems requiring legislative action
•Attend community meetings and town board meetings in person and virtually and actively review meeting agendas
•Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders
•Remain up to date on resolutions and issues being considered by municipal governments
•Elevate important district information to the Senator and senior staff in a timely manner
•Assist in research
Minimum Qualifications To be considered, you must have:
•Robust communication and research skills
•Strong attention to detail
•The ability to think critically, execute sound judgment, and find creative solutions
•A bachelor's degree
Knowledge about and experience working in the Hudson Valley is preferred. This position can be based in either the Kingston or Hudson District Office.
Additional Comments The starting salary is $50,000 to $52,000, commensurate with education and experience.
