Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The maintenance assistant performs the more routine, repetitive maintenance, installation, and repair tasks maintaining adherence to the applicable NYS Uniform and Life Safety codes to ensure health and safety is maintained throughout administrative sites and the Physical Plant.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a variety of related duties, including but not limited to:
• Perform ongoing maintenance, small repair, and environmental improvement projects.
• Perform semi-skilled carpentry duties, including the installation and maintenance of walls, ceilings, cabinets, doors, windows, flooring, and insulation.
• Conduct skilled surface preparation and application of primer and finish coats of paint in areas designated in the scope of work.
• Perform housekeeping tasks and heavy cleaning, general grounds keeping, landscaping, building maintenance, and painting as needed.
• Maintain grounds by mowing grass, sweeping, raking, shoveling, and removing by hand debris, branches, snow, ice, trash, etc.
• Possess a working knowledge of maintenance and repair methods, materials, and tools. Perform manual tasks such as lifting and placing equipment and tools.
• Requires daily travel within the district. May require travel within NY State to assist other districts with special projects.
• Position may require mentoring for the individuals that we serve.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
• Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade or trades to which assigned.
• Working knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Ability to train and supervise others.
• Candidate will be trained in the operation and maintenance procedures as related to Asbestos Containing Materials.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, codes, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications.
• Basic computer skills preferred
• Valid NYS driver’s License
