Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer: NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive status as a Security Officer (G-8), Security Services Assistant 1 (G-6) or Correction Officer (G14) and eligible to transfer to Security Officer (G8) under section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Provisional: A NYS Security Guard Registration Number or current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State AND six months of post-Security Guard Registration experience as a Security Guard OR six months of experience as a police officer or peace officer OR six months of active service and an Honorable Discharge from the United States military where you performed security duties on a United States military base or vessel. Security duties on a United States military base or vessell include working as military police or as a security personnel performing foot and motorized patrol, control of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, flight line security and crime prevention/physical security. Both transfer and provisional candidates must have, and continuously maintain, their current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the NYS Department of State in order to accept and maintain employment. A copy of your Security Guard Photo ID must accompany your resume. Candidates must also possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter.


Duties Description The incumbent will monitor and maintain security systems to control access to buildings and restricted areas; conduct scheduled rounds; inspect building fire and safety equipment; during fire drills, instruct and direct people to routes of egress; prepare and write reports involving incidents or accidents.

Additional Comments Permanent, full-time appointment. This position involves shift work, nights, weekends and holidays. Shifts will be assigned by seniority within title according to Article 24.3 of the NYSCOPBA contract. Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved in this position and the candidate will be scheduled for yearly TB testing. All candidates must have, and continuously maintain, their current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the NYS Department of State in order to accept and maintain employment. A copy of your Security Guard Photo ID must accompany your resume. Candidates must also possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter.
