Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field AND a minimum of six (6) years of professional investment experience, including: at least three (3) years analyzing, evaluating, recommending or monitoring institutional private and/or public market investments, and at least three (3) years supervising/mentoring staff.

Duties Description Reporting to the CRE Manager of Real Estate, the incumbent is responsible for oversight and management of the CRE Equity and Debt portfolios, as well as direct loan servicing activities necessary to maximize portfolio performance within the System’s risk tolerance.

The Assistant Manager- CRE Portfolio Management and Loan Servicing is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
• Participate in the development of the Department’s strategic plan on an annual basis, including the evaluation of current strategies versus opportunities in the market
• Coordinate and implement activities to evaluate, develop and enhance portfolio, asset management and loan servicing processes designed to maximize performance and minimize downside risk
• Evaluate NYSTRS’ equity real estate advisors regarding development of annual property business plans and goals, operational and capital budgets, property level financing and disposition strategies
• Analyze and, when appropriate, recommend approval of asset business plans and significant property activities
• Perform a leadership role in annual business plan meetings
• Serve on advisory boards of commingled real estate funds to evaluate execution of the approved fund strategy and perform other duties as described by the fund documents
• Monitor manager performance and compliance with approved investment guidelines and strategy for domestic and global public real estate managers
• Supervise asset management and loan servicing staff in relation to carrying out their responsibilities including oversight of operations and performance and coordination of external audits and appraisals
• Perform a leadership role in Departmental meetings
• Perform market and property inspections
• Attend conferences and meetings to stay abreast of industry trends and establish business relationships, especially with peers
• Evaluate investment manager performance vs. benchmarks and peers
• Prepare management reports and make presentations to the Internal Investment Committee, Real Estate Advisory Committee and Board regarding performance and transactions
• Coordinate with the Investment Operations and Finance Departments regarding custody, accounting and reporting for real estate investments
• Review, with assistance of counsel, transaction agreements, loan documents, advisory/management agreements and other related legal documents
• Manage Department resources to help develop staff skills and expertise
