Duties Description Under supervision of the Preserve Manager, Parks Supervisors, and Head of Maintenance, the Park and Recreation Aide 2 will be responsible for:
• Assists in semiskilled maintenance and repair work in one or a combination of trade areas.
• Performing trades tasks with direct instruction and training from a qualified supervisor.
• Completing maintenance activities including mowing, refuse removal, cleaning structures, painting, maintaining equipment, operating trucks, tractors, power saws and other self propelled equipment, minor carpentry, masonry, plumbing or electrical repairs and other duties as assigned.
• Performing grounds landscaping on natural fields, roads and paths and building maintenance, including restroom cleaning, using green practices and a variety of tools.
• Using motor driven equipment and hand tools in the performance of assigned tasks.
• Assisting in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
• Performing a variety of administrative duties by assisting with inventories and collection of data for work orders and other assignments as needed.
• Working closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess effective communication skills and can understand instructions, including written material.
• Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. and loading, unloading and moving items of varying weights and sizes.
• Daytime, weekend, holiday and evening work may be required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
• Candidates may be required to report to other facilities on an as needed basis.
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
• Two years’ experience in the landscape and maintenance functions at a park or recreation facility or similar experience in the private setting is preferred but not required
