Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Duties Description The Office of Design (comprised of 11 Regional Design Groups and the Main Office) manages and produces transportation project designs; develops and issues policies, standards and guidance necessary to produce project designs. The Office of Design is filling a position in the Rail Projects Group and the Design Consultant Management Bureau.
DESIGN CONSULTANT MANAGEMENT BUREAU DUTIES:
Under the direction of a higher-level supervisor duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Track, monitor, and assist in managing project and program funding
• Monitor capital construction encumbrances, contract lettings, and expenditures
• Assist in meeting federal funding requirements for tracking and allocating funding
• Work cooperatively with and coordinate activities with Regional Offices
• Advance procurements and grant agreements
• Assist in preparing grant applications
• Routine meetings with stakeholders
• Coordinate with Federal Administration and other Agencies
• Occasional overnight travel
• Strong written and oral communication skills are required
• A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint along with experience using Microsoft Access or other database programs, project management software, GIS and the internet are highly desirable to perform the duties for this position
RAIL PROJECT GROUP DUTIES:
Under the direction of a higher-level supervisor duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Help with coordinating the Joint NYSDOT/Amtrak Hudson Line Budget Committee
• Track, monitor, and assist in managing project and program funding
• Monitor capital construction encumbrances, contract lettings, and expenditures
• Assist in meeting federal funding requirements for tracking and allocating funding
• Work cooperatively with and coordinate activities with railroads
• Work cooperatively with and coordinate activities with Regional Offices
• Advance procurements, railroad agreements, and federal grant agreements
• Assist in preparing grant applications
• Routine meetings with stakeholders
• Coordinate with Federal Railroad Administration and other Agencies
• Occasional overnight travel
• Strong written and oral communication skills are required
• A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint along with experience using Microsoft Access or other database
Specific program assignments and duties can be discussed further at time of interview.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
