Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1; OR New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above Grade 20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1, or Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the Open Competitive minimum qualifications listed below.
Public Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications (Provisional Opportunity):
A. You must be a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
AND
B. you must have two years of full-time professional experience, after successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, in the field of nutrition or dietetics.
Substitution: A Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
Duties Description The Bureau of Child and Adult Care Food Programs (CACFP) is a federally funded public health nutrition program that provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to children in family day care homes, day care centers, emergency shelters, afterschool programs, and other settings.
The Public Health Nutritionist (PHN) 1 will be assigned to CACFP's Security, Technology, and Reporting Services Unit. The PHN 1 will be the bureau's forms coordinator, and will be responsible for creating and maintaining forms and publications that are critical for child nutrition program participation. The incumbent will also maintain public-facing websites with current CACFP participation data, policy memos, mass memorandums, forms, and publications to maintain child nutrition program operations.
The PHN 1 will also act as a Nutrition Implementation Specialist for the CACFP Information and Payment System (CIPS) and will be a CACFP subject matter nutrition expert, as well as a member of the CACFP training team. The position will also supervise a Health Program Aide and a temporary Administrative Assistant.
Additional Comments Permanent or provisional, full-time, appointment. Provisional opportunities are pending canvass outcome. Travel to areas not served by public transportation is required (10%).
