Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: bachelor’s degree* with at least 15 credit hours in cyber security, information assurance, or information technology.
*Substitution: bachelor's degree candidates without at least 15 course credits in cyber security, information assurance, or information technology require an additional year of general information technology experience to qualify. Appropriate information security or information assurance experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis; an associate's degree requires an additional two years of general information technology experience.
Duties Description • Acquire information technology equipment in a forensically sound manner following the agency’s digital forensic standard operating procedures.
• Provide digital forensic investigative support by examining and analyzing electronic information.
• Produce any discovered electronic information and/or any findings to the entity requesting digital forensic services.
• Perform validation testing on any new digital forensic technical procedures, equipment, or software tools.
• Research new digital forensic and incident response tools, techniques, and methodologies.
• Support the agency’s e-discovery process by identifying and collecting electronic information stored in workstations.
• Perform security event monitoring and network traffic analysis using a Security Information and Event Management system (SIEM) and/or other detective technologies.
• Assist with evaluating and analyzing reported emails to the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT).
• Assist incident responders to investigate and resolve computer security incidents.
• Perform phishing simulations across the agency including creating training simulations, conducting simulations, tracking and reporting out the results to appropriate parties.
• Provide security assistance to CIO units in evaluating security controls and provide secure solutions.
• Research security related items for agency projects, as needed.
• Manage the evidence locker for the storage of case evidence.
• Manage the digital forensic and incident response equipment including maintenance, troubleshooting technical issues, and preparing equipment for use.
• Assist with maintaining the Forensic Recovery of Evidence Devices (FREDs), ensuring all software is up-to-date and at current approved versions.
Additional Comments Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Working knowledge of:
• Digital forensics, incident response, malware forensics, evidence handling, and digital forensic tools.
• Computer networks, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and SIEMs.
• Windows operating system digital forensic artifacts.
• Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly articulate information technology and information security concepts.
• Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills.
