Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences and one year of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field.
Substitution: 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have professional work experience in clinical laboratory sciences, biology, microbiology, veterinary medicine, wildlife biology, public health or infectious diseases. Experience in necropsy, wildlife or veterinary medicine, fluorescent microscopy, data management, cell culture, and molecular techniques. Bachelor’s degree in biological or chemical sciences and a minimum of two years’ experience in the handling of infectious clinical samples and/or human pathogens at biosafety level 2 containment.
Duties Description The Assistant Research Scientist major activities are necropsy, performing the direct fluorescent antibody test (dFAT), reporting results to the county, and data management. The Assistant Research Scientist will assist in the preparation of samples for molecular diagnostic, typing assays, and assist in serological studies.
Additional Comments Exposure to potentially hazardous substances will be involved with this position; the selected candidate will be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and will undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.
