Minimum Qualifications Either:
1. A New York State Professional Engineer’s license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor’s degree or higher as listed below.*
Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
OR,
2. A New York State Professional Engineer’s license and current registration AND one year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroad, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems.*
*Interested candidates will be required to take the Civil Service Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) examination and obtain a reachable score on the resulting eligible list to be appointed permanently.

3. Current New York State employee with one year of permanent competitive service in a eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service law.
Duties Description The Thruway Authority is recruiting for vacancies in several work units. Duties for each of these areas are listed below:
Geotech - Professional Engineer 1 Civil/Transportation: This position is involved with all Capital Program projects that have geotechnical requirements, elements, and issues. Some of the tasks this position undertakes include the following:
-Analyze foundation conditions and prepare foundation design reports for all in-house designed and some consultant designed structures. These structures include highway bridges, culverts, etc.
-Design and detail excavation support systems for new highway structures.
-Provide construction support for all geotechnical issues, including wave equation analysis for all driven piles to approve contractor’s pile driving system and provide pile driving criteria. Review/approve construction submittals for grouted anchors, bored-in piles, drilled shafts, etc. Review construction testing such as dynamic pile testing, performance/proof tests for grouted anchors, etc.
-Evaluate and recommend treatments for Thruway maintenance issues, such as sloughing slopes and embankment seepage problems.
Bridge Design - Professional Engineer 1 Civil/Transportation: This position will be assigned to one of the Bridge Design squads and will design various bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects. This will include performing and/or checking engineering computations, field investigations, preparing design reports, preparing plans, specifications and estimates, and other technical elements of the projects. This position could also manage engineering consultants that are designing projects for the Authority. This will include, but not limited to preparing scopes of services, tracking progress of the project and evaluation of the consultant. This position will provide support (including responding to RFI’s and questions) as the projects progress through construction.
Highway Design - Professional Engineer 1 Civil/Transportation: This position will be assigned to one of the Highway Design squads and will design various highway resurfacing and rehabilitation projects. This will include performing and/or checking engineering computations, field investigations, preparing design reports, preparing plans, specifications and estimates, and other technical elements of the projects. This position could also manage engineering consultants that are designing projects for the Authority. This will include, but not limited to preparing scopes of services, tracking progress of the project and evaluation of the consultant. This position will provide support (including responding to RFI’s and questions) as the projects progress through construction.
Additional Comments Telecommuting may be allowed with supervisory approval.
This position belongs to the CSEA bargaining unit.
