Minimum Qualifications Assistant Chief Lifeguard should meet all the qualifications for Lifeguards and should have been a Lifeguard for at least one season. The candidate must possess current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (LG/FA/CPR/AED) and possess Waterfront module certification; or equivalent certifications from an agency approved by the New York State Department of Health. Certifications must remain valid throughout employment. The required practical leadership experience may have been with NYS Parks or an equivalent capacity in another organization.

Duties Description Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Under the direction of the Park Manager and Chief Lifeguard, the Assistant Chief Lifeguard oversees all water safety activities and lifeguards at the facility. Assistant Chief Lifeguard tasks include performing lifeguard duties; evaluates and supervises the performance of the Lifeguards; accounts for the condition of all lifeguarding equipment; conducts in-service training drills; and preventing accidents in the facility. The Assistant Chief Lifeguard is responsible to ensure all written reports such as daily operation logs, rotation schedules, oxygen logs, training reports and patron incident reports are properly completed and submitted to the Park Manager and Water Safety Coordinator. The Assistant Chief Lifeguard will assist the Park Manager with scheduling of lifeguards to ensure the facility has appropriate coverage during all operational hours.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver’s License as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be available to work weekends and hours as needed.
