Minimum Qualifications For permanent appointment: Reachable for appointment from appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
For provisional appointment (if eligible list exhausted): A license and current registration to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York State; a bachelor's degree in nursing; and two years of post-licensure experience in a nursing administrative management position in a long-term care setting.
Experience as a health service nurse, research nurse, discharge planning nurse, admitting nurse, or out-patient nurse is NOT considered to be administrative/management experience for the purposes of this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who have in-depth knowledge of the New York State processes and rules for care of residents in nursing homes or long-term care facilities and who have significant experience in managing clinical staff. Administrative and managerial experience in a geriatric setting will also be preferred. Understanding and commitment to the Home’s core values and philosophy that “residents come first” is also a criterion for selection.
Duties Description As an Asst. Director of Nursing-Long Term Care, Serves as an assistant to the Director Nursing; assists in the management, direction, and evaluation of nursing and direct care services and operations; develops and implements nursing policies, procedures, programs, goals, and objectives; supervises Nurse Administrator 1 and other staff assigned to facility nursing programs.
Duties include but not limited to: Provide clinical and administrative supervision; evaluate and prioritize staff issues; chairs/co-chairs and serves on numerous committees; serve as resource for assessment and resolution of issues affecting resident care; ensure all DOH and Federal guidelines are met; assist with formulating and implementing policies and procedures; develop and revise as necessary Nursing Standards to Care and Practice in conjunction with ANA and HCFA requirements; extensive knowledge of MDS and PRI's; extensive knowledge of care planning and the insurance process; provide clinical and administrative supervision of professional and paraprofessional nursing practices; participate in safety programs ensuring A&I protocols are maintained; knowledge of conducting investigations of complaints and accidents; oversee the QAPI and QAA Programs as they relate to nursing services; ability to develop programs to reduce incontinence; investigate staff, family and resident complaints; review/monitor and evaluate staff performance programs/evaluations; conducts daily rounds to monitor care and ensure residents satisfaction. In addition, the incumbent will manage the Nursing Dept. in the absence of the Dir of Nursing and must be available 24/7 for emergencies in the Home
Additional Comments Salary includes: Base Salary, Location and Geographic Pay.
Conditions of Employment:
Provisional, competitive, full-time appointment. Candidates hired on a provisional basis will be required to pass a qualifying Civil Service exam in the future and be immediately reachable for appointment on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. This position is not over-time eligible and is designated management confidential (non-represented) Must be flexible and able/available to work beyond “normal” workday/workweek consistent with operational needs, including providing on-call coverage.
