Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking candidates for an Equal Opportunity Specialist 1 position in the Office of Diversity and Access within the Office of Human Resources Management. The Office of Diversity and Access facilitates the establishment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a work environment and culture which is equitable, accessible, and in compliance with legal mandates, and which is inclusive of the many and diverse communities served by NYSED. Additionally, the Office of Diversity and Access works in partnership with the Office of Human Resources Management in agency recruitment, examination planning, training, career opportunities and community partnerships. Under the supervision of the Director of Diversity & Access, the incumbent of this position will assist with the development, implementation, supervision, and monitoring of affirmative action/diversity management and equal employment opportunity programs in the New York State Education Department.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Identify and analyze workforce data on the representation of protected class employees;
• Investigate and resolve internal and external allegations of discrimination;
• Evaluate and interpret existing and revised laws, rules, regulations, and polices to ensure that the agency’s program complies with them;
• Review and analyze requests for reasonable and religious accommodations;
• Conduct training on workforce diversity, preventing allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination, providing reasonable accommodations, and facilitating new employee orientation training for those employees entering NYSED; and
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of work history will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position will require 20% in-state and/or statewide travel.

* Leads to a maximum salary of $73,259 based on annual performance advances.
