Minimum Qualifications VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR 1/SG-12 - $43,970
Minimum qualifications for taking the open-competitive examination:
1. four years of appropriate trade experience and a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized state educational authority;
OR 2. an associate’s degree in a related trade area and two years of appropriate trade experience;
OR 3. a bachelor’s degree in any area and one year of appropriate trade experience.

VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR 2/SG-13 - $46,529
Minimum qualifications for taking the open-competitive examination:
1. four years of appropriate trade experience and a minimum of 9 college credits in pedagogy core coursework earned from a New York State Education Department approved program. These must include 3 college credits in each of the following areas: human development and learning; teaching students with disabilities and special health needs; curriculum, instruction, and assessment;

VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR 4/SG-17 - $57,984
Minimum qualifications for taking the open-competitive examination: Professional certification as a teacher of trade subjects in the appropriate specialty as issued by the New York State Education Department.

Duties Description Vocational Instructors work independently in planning, teaching, and evaluating activities. Supervisory controls are primarily through an approved syllabus or curriculum supplemented by occassional classroom visits by the education supervisor or director or treatment team leader and the latters review of written and verbal reports of learners performance and progress. Periodic meetings and conferences are held by this supervisor with instructors to discuss vocational education programs, course content and teaching methods in response to specific problems.
