Minimum Qualifications There is no written test. If you meet the Minimum Qualifications, your education and experience will be evaluated against the general background/critical activities of the position.
Candidates must have one year of post-master's experience** as a Speech Language Pathologist AND New York State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist; or American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) certification in Speech Language Pathology.
** This experience is NOT in addition to the experience required for licensure or certification. However, you must have had one full calendar year of experience.
Transfer Opportunity:
Currently serving as a permanent Speech Language Pathologist 2 eligible for transfer; OR One year of permanent competitive service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.

Duties Description * (Salary will be pro-rated to 50% of annual salary)
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties may include but are not limited to:
• Evaluate and manage swallowing disorders, coordinate, and carry out swallowing evaluations, and recommend diet consistencies and dining techniques for safety.
• Provide training to staff in choking prevention, dysphagia, aspiration, communication, as well as other important meal-related safety skills.
• Provides input to policies and procedures related to their discipline and consults with other disciplines with whom they work closely (Nursing, Nutritional Services, OT etc.).
• Develops an appropriate clinical treatment plan or plan of care to help improve, maintain, and restore communication skills. and related functions in their clients.
• Provide treatment to individuals to develop and strengthen muscles used to swallow and/or speak; teach individuals how to make sounds and improve their voices.
• Provides Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders.
• Work with the individual's caregivers/family and other professionals, provide education and training as needed.
• Maintains and enters clinical records in the agency's Electronic Health Record (EHR). Enters billing for services rendered in the EHR.
• Other duties as assigned
NOTE: Travel within the three-county catchment area will be required in the performance of the duties of the position. This may include a state-owned vehicle, as available, or the employee’s own car. An employee who uses his/her own car will be reimbursed at current negotiated rates.
