Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and six years of relevant experience.*

Duties Description Reporting to the Chair of the Cannabis Control Board, the incumbent is actively involved in supporting the Cannabis Control Board Chair’s execution of the full scope of their responsibilities. This role engages with other OCM Staff to ensure that the Chair is prepared and supported in providing oversight over New York’s cannabis industry. The Special Advisor to the Cannabis Control Chair also serves as a confidante, advisor and as a strategic thought partner to the Chair.

Additional Duties Include:

• Provides executive level managerial assistance and advice to the Cannabis Control Board Chair and Cannabis Control Board, assuring the mission of the Cannabis Control Board is achieved.
• Assists the Cannabis Control Board Chair in policy decision making and shaping and operationalizing programs, initiatives, and related matters before the Board.
• Acts as liaison between the Cannabis Control Board Chair and Office of Cannabis Management senior staff in the implementation of the Office of Cannabis Management’s Strategic Plan.
• Advises the Cannabis Control Board Chair on the creation of policy initiatives and changes to improve performance, management and decision making of the Cannabis Control Board.
• Represents and assists the Cannabis Control Board Chair in high level meetings with State control agencies, such as the Division of the Budget, NYS Department of Civil Service and the Office of the State Comptroller, to discuss matters concerning the Cannabis Control Board.
• Supports the Cannabis Control Board Chair in ensuring recommendations and requests of Cannabis Control Board members are executed.
• Actively works toward building and maintaining relationships among the Cannabis Control Board Chair and outside partners.
• Support the Cannabis Control Board Chair by serving as a confidante, thought partner and trusted advisor; assist in the refinement and implementation of the Cannabis Control Board Chair’s agenda; assist with managing relationships with organizational partners; serve as proxy for the Cannabis Control Board Chair in key internal settings as needed.
• Assist in the development of Cannabis Control Board policies, processes and procedures that ensure consistency and support continual improvement.
