Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: 2B-GW (ground water or surface water with filtration avoidance) license from the NYS Department of Health for operation of the Robert Moses/Captree filtration plant. This certification may be gained during the probationary period.*
2B-GW (ground water or surface water with filtration avoidance) license will result in termination from this position.
Duties Description DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Park Sanitation Superintendent, duties will include serving as a chief operator and/or supervising, assisting and training other plant operators and staff with the operations of various types of water and wastewater treatment plants and systems, including distribution and collection systems: perform daily testing, adjust control panels, gauges, chlorinators, filters and other equipment. Incumbent will run chemical tests, perform mathematical calculations to determine proper chemical addition, and add chemicals; adjust water treatments to meet NYS DOH standards; performs a variety of maintenance tasks in a water or wastewater treatment plant and surrounding areas including cleaning, repairing, calibrating and maintaining pumps, valves, meters, filters and screens, mowing, and weeding; collection of water samples and delivering same to lab, recording samples taken, tests performed and results, and actions taken in daily log books and on monthly forms; and will instruct and/or supervise lower level workers in operating and maintaining plants and equipment. Incumbent will perform semiskilled maintenance and repair activities in one or a combination of trade areas to plants and equipment for a portion of their time.; take agency required bathing beach samples and deliver to labs for testing; operate and maintain park’s boat pump-out systems; and operate and maintain the park’s sewage pumping stations and septic tank system. Incumbent may be assigned to perform semiskilled maintenance and repair tasks at facilities other than water and sewer plants during the non-operating season.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
? The Agency is electing to require candidates to possess and maintain a 2A Water Treatment Plant Operation Certification, issued by NYS DOH as a term and condition of employment. As previously stated, this certification may be gained during the probationary period.
Applicants must:
? Possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license as a term and condition of appointment.
? Be available to work after hours, weekends and holidays.
? Be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
? Have the ability to effectively communicate and conduct state business.
