Minimum Qualifications G14 - A Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Biostatistics, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related degree AND one year of post-degree professional research experience in that field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
G18 - Bachelor's degree in a degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Biostatistics, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related degree AND two years of post-degree professional research experience in the appropriate field; OR a Master’s degree in one of the above fields and one year of such experience in the appropriate field.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong data management and data validation skills. Experience with extracting, merging, and linking health care datasets for the application of higher order analysis. Proven experience developing statistical programs in SAS and/or SQL languages. Knowledge of statistical methods and their application for predictive analytics. Familiarity with quality improvement concepts and methodologies. Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Power Point. Excellent communication, organization, and program management skills.
Duties Description "The Research Scientist (RS) will work within the Office of Quality and Patient Safety, Center for Applied Research and Evaluation, Bureau of Outcomes Research and Evaluation assisting with the data management, analytics, and reporting responsibilities of the Office-Based Surgery (OBS) Program. The RS will also perform a variety of data management, research, evaluation, and analytical tasks designed to leverage clinical and health services data to evaluate quality of care and improve health outcomes. Specific duties include the following: contribute to the planning, design, analysis and reporting of research, evaluation, and analytical projects that will provide new information and knowledge to inform system changes, quality improvement, and improve patient outcomes; develop and execute statistical programs to extract, cleanse, collapse, sort and merge data from OBS data sources as well as large administrative data sources maintained by the Department; contribute to the development of data visualization and querying tools to provide decision-makers with real-time access to data; contribute to and collaborate with other researchers to produce meaningful reports, analytical tabulations and scientific articles for peer review publication; communicate findings with stakeholders internal and external to the Department; and assist in the response to analytical queries needed to address OBS Program priorities.
If appointed as an Assistant Research Scientist, the incumbent will assist a higher level research scientist with these duties; if appointed as a Research Scientist 1 level, the incumbent will be expected to perform these duties under general supervision."
