Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
If a list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.
Engineering Technician Trainee, NS=Grade 8:
1. One year of experience assisting in engineering, engineering technology, engineering
management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology,
electronics, electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying; and graduation from high school or possession of an equivalent diploma; or
2. 18 semester college credit hours in mathematics, physical science, engineering or
engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics;
3. Graduation from a high school technical education program in CAD/CAM, construction
technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics or electronics.
Note: Upon successful completion of the 52-week traineeship candidates will be automatically
advanced to the Senior Engineering Technician, SG-13.
Senior Engineering Technician, Grade 13:
1. Two years of experience assisting in engineering, engineering technology, engineering
management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology,
electronics, electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or
surveying; and graduation from high school or possession of an equivalent diploma; or
2. Associate's degree in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering
technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or
electronics.
Substitution: a certificate in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering,
engineering graphics or electronics may substitute for one year of the experience; or 36 semester
college credit hours in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology,
architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology,
landscape architecture or landscape design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics
or electronics technology may substitute for experience at the rate of 18 semester credit hours
equaling one year of experience.
Duties Description The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Collecting, maintaining, and analyzing test data in support of the Department's Quality (QA) Assurance Program.
Performing laboratory testing of materials such as cement, asphalt, aggregates, soil, geosynthetic materials, paints, and bridge bearings, as part of the Department's Quality (QA) Assurance Program.
Reviewing data and samples submitted for the Approved List Materials.
Entering test results into the Department's Site Manager and/or LIMS Systems.
Occasional travel across the state in support of the Office of Technical Services Program.
Performing other duties, as required.
Due to the nature of this position, telecommuting will not be allowed.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Additional Comments *Telecommuting: The Department’s current telecommuting agreement is valid through December 31, 2022 and is subject to extension beyond that date.
