Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Administrative Specialist 1 OR in a title G-16 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law OR in a title G-16 or above appropriate for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.

Qualifications for Administrative Specialist Trainee 1, NS:

Also open to NYS employees in a title designated appropriate for Section 70.1 transfer to the title of Administrative Specialist Trainee 1 or Administrative Specialist Trainee 2.

Candidates with at least one year of permanent competitive service in a title allocated to G-11 or higher who have standing on the PCO eligible list, or who have a bachelor’s degree and are active on the PATT eligible list may be eligible for transfer under the provisions of Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.

Candidates eligible for consideration under the Governor's Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55-b/c of the Civil Service Law will also be considered. Individuals certified eligible for the 55-b/c program must possess a bachelor's degree to meet the education qualifications. Salary range above applies to candidates appointed to Administrative Specialist 1, G-18. The hiring rate for candidates appointed to Administrative Specialist Trainee 1 starts at $47,039 and is based on the candidate's salary at the time of hire. Candidates hired into the traineeship will be advanced to Administrative Specialist 1 upon the successful completion of a two-year traineeship.

Duties Description The Administrative Specialist 1 will be assigned to the Background Check Unit of the Administration Bureau in Division of Finance and will act as an Administrative Specialist responsible for handling highly sensitive and confidential information while conducting follow up with the parties involved pertaining to the background checks that have stalled. This procedure is an integral part of the onboarding of ITS staff. To ensure agency IT services are met, the following duties will be performed:

• Ensures prospective candidates for ITS employment, including contractors, undergo a criminal background check
• Monitors the unit’s SharePoint site, shared mailbox, and ITSM ticket system and responds to questions regarding the process
• Informs candidates and hiring managers of background check statuses
• Processes deactivation requests when employees or consultants are offboarded
• Reviews the Security Background Documents submitted by candidates and required by the NY State Police
• Tracks results from the Department of Criminal Justice and the New York State Police and transfers that information to the unit’s main tracker
• Participates in SLMS training required to maintain the knowledge needed to perform duties
