Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law.

Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.

The minimum requirements for taking the Junior Landscape Architect examination are:

Either 1. a bachelor's or higher-level degree in landscape architecture;*

Or 2. a Landscape Architect's License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.**

* Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university with a Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) accredited curriculum, a Canadian Society of Landscape Architects Accreditation Council (CSLAAC), or by a college or university accredited by regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.

**You will be required to provide proof of having an out-of-state Landscape Architect License at time of interview.

Advanced Placement: If beyond meeting the minimum qualifications you have passed both Sections 1 and 2 of the LARE AND have one year of full-time experience, you may be appointed directly to a Landscape Architect, Grade 20. You must inform the appointing agency of this experience at time of interview. Advanced placement appointments are at the discretion of the hiring agency.

Duties Description Under the direct supervision of the Regional Landscape Architect, the duties of the Junior Landscape Architect may include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting in the preparation and review of various project documents (i.e. reports, plans, specifications, estimates, environmental compliance, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities) in compliance with current Department policies, procedures, and state and federal guidelines.
• Providing assistance and recommendations on construction projects in matters relating to landscape development, plant material inspection and approval, environmental concerns, and pedestrian/bicycle accommodations.
• Assisting with the preparation of various environmental assessments and permits (i.e. visual, air, noise, wetlands, water resources, cultural resources, etc.)
• Providing technical assistance in the areas of landscape architecture and environmental analysis to other functional groups such as: Maintenance, Construction, Planning and Program Management, Real Estate, and Traffic and Safety.
• Preparing landscape architectural renderings and presentation material for public meetings.
• Attending various internal and public meetings.
• Utilizing MicroStation, ArcGIS, Adobe products, ProjectWise, and other software packages to perform necessary work assignments throughout the design process.
• Preparing office correspondence and maintaining regional records and files.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
