Minimum Qualifications "Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent status as a Health Systems Specialist 2 (Nutrition), G-20 OR Current New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a position G-18 or higher, and eligible for 70.4 transfer (must pass exam by meeting provisional qualifications below).
Provisional Appointment: Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and two years of clinical experience in a licensed and/or certified health facility or program* OR utilizing clinical knowledge in the review or oversight of clinical services for reimbursement or quality assurance purposes. * Examples of qualifying health facilities and programs include hospitals, nursing homes, adult homes, ambulatory care facilities, managed care organizations, psychiatric centers, developmental centers, diagnostic and treatment centers, home health care agencies, assisted living facilities, alcoholism and substance abuse treatment facilities, and community based agencies that serve the developmentally disabled. Experience as a private practitioner or in a physician’s office is NOT considered qualifying.
Preferred Qualifications: Must have strong interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making and time management skills. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders. Must have strong writing skills. Acute care and/or dialysis experience is preferred. Knowledge of the FDA Food Code and/or NYS Sanitary Code for Food Service is a plus.
Duties Description The incumbent will be responsible to conduct annual/recertification surveillance and focused infection control inspections for facilities located in the Lower Hudson Valley. The incumbent is expected to have a strong knowledge base in the areas of dietary requirements and nutrition, including review of menus in accordance with nutritional daily requirements, safe standards for food preparation and sanitation including all relevant sections of Part 14 of the NYS Sanitary Code. The incumbent will also be responsible to investigate complaints and incidents in these and other quality of care, quality of life, abuse, resident rights and other areas, conduct pre-opening surveys, develop statements of deficiencies, review electronic plans of correction, provide technical assistance as appropriate, review food service/nutrition policies and procedures on Part II licensure applications, and gain a working knowledge of all Nursing Home-Long term care regulations as necessary to investigate concerns appropriately and testify at hearings.
Additional Comments Permanent or provisional pending examination, full-time. Provisional candidates will be required to take the next holding of the Civil Service HSS 2 (Nutrition) examination and must be eligible for immediate appointment from the resultant eligible list to maintain continued employment as an HSS 2 (Nutrition). Candidates considered for this position must have Registered Dietician (CDR) license at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter. Candidates must pass SMQT within first year of employment, as required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to conduct surveys. Routine travel, including travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation, is required. Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is required.
