55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED’s) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Education Program Assistant 1 position in the Office of Student Support Services. This Office promotes school improvement by focusing on social and emotional learning, mental health services, and supports through programs and activities related to Student-Centered Support Services, School and Student Health, Expanded Learning Opportunities, Safe Schools and Alternative Education. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Collect, develop, enter and maintain databases, spreadsheets and text documents;
• Provide guidance and reply to internal and external correspondence, including written and telephone inquiries;
• Provide support for all IT, data, research projects and press requests;
• Create reports to assist with policy and technical assistance decisions;
• Prepare information for posting on the Department’s website;
• Prepare reports using a variety of computer applications, at times in coordination with staff from other offices such as State Aid and Information Reporting Services;
• Use various computer applications to update data on internal and external websites and databases;
• Assist staff in data collection projects and grant-management activities; and
• Assist with other areas of work in the office as needed to improve processes and procedures.


Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications and possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter. Appointment is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required for all candidates at the time of interview.

This position may be filled as a traineeship. The salary listed above applies to candidates appointed to Education Program Assistant 1, SG-14. The hiring rate for candidates appointed to Education Trainee 1 starts at $40,818 and, for current New York State employees, is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates appointed at the trainee level will be required to successfully complete the traineeship in order to advance to the journey level title and salary.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $62,806 based on annual performance advances.
