Administrative Assistant 1 (formerly Secretary 1); OR current
New York State employee with one year or more of permanent,
contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a position allocated to
a Grade 6 and above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1
of the Civil Service Law to Administrative Assistant Trainee 1.

*Note: Appointment may be made at either the trainee 1 or
trainee 2. A new two-year traineeship, (Administrative Assistant
Trainee 1, NS=Grade 8 starting salary $34,831 & Administrative
Assistant Trainee 2, NS=Grade 10 starting salary $38, 875)
leading to Administrative Assistant 1, Grade 11, has been
approved effective October 31, 2019. Trainees will be required
to take four mandatory courses the first year of the traineeship
and four elective courses in the second year of the traineeship in
four competency areas through the CSEA Partnership, or
equivalent offerings through another entity as determined by the
agency. Trainees having completed the mandatory coursework
prior to appointment may be eligible for appointment to the
Trainee 2 level with appropriate approvals. All trainees are
required to successfully complete all courses before advancing
to the Administrative Assistant 1, G-11.

Demonstrated ability to handle a large and complex workload; excellent writing skills, comfortable with various computer applications; highly effective team member.

Duties Description An Administrative Assistant 1 is needed to support the dailiy operations Survey Unit of The Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP). CLEP is a regulatory program responsible for the oversight of clinical laboratories, patient service centers and limited service laboratories located in or accepting specimens from NYS. The incumbent will compile reports and data for technical staff review, schedule meetings and conference calls, assist with documenting policies and procedures, and monitor the progress of Survey Unit special projects and assignments.

Additional Comments Dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent reassignment of this position satisfactory background checks may be required. Additionally, exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position; the selected candidate may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations.

Contingent-Permanent, Competitive or Provisional, full-time. Transfer candidates may be asked for SSN to verify title history and eligibility. Transfer candidates in certain titles will also be required to successfully pass a keyborading test in order to qualify for appointment. If three or fewer NYS DOH promotional candidates respond to this posting, the agency may, at its discreton, nominate a qualified employee for non-competitive promotion under under the provisions of Section 52.7 of the NYS Civil Service Law. Employees must have one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent service as described above. If certifified by Civil Service, mandatory reemployment list candidates must be considered first for appointment to this title. Candidates being considered under this provison must not have either failed to pass, or failed to apply for (if qualified), the last holding of the Secretary 1 (G-11) examination, #37-923, held on March 3, 2018. Provisional appointees will be required to apply for and take the next Civil Service examination announced for this title, and achieve a high enough score to be immediately appointable from the resulting eligible list, in order to maintain employment.
