Minimum Qualifications Current license and registration to practice medicine in New York State, AND board-eligible or board-certified in a medical specialty AND either a master’s degree in Public Health or one-year experience in a public health program.

Preferred Qualifications: At least three years of work experience in public health, preventive medicine, pediatrics, or infectious disease within a health department, academic, or clinical setting. Education or other training and work experience in epidemiology. Familiarity with communicable diseases, vaccine-preventable diseases, and outbreak response activities. Excellent organizational and communications skills.

Duties Description The Public Health Physician 2 will serve as the Medical Director for the Bureau of Immunizations. The incumbent will serve as the subject matter expert providing medical oversight and clinical direction to the Bureau of Immunization, in conjunction with the Center for Community Health, the Office of Public, and the broader Department of health. They will interface with a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders presenting and providing clinical guidance as it related to Immunizations.

The incumbent will develop, update, review, and present clinical guidance documents, studies, reports, and other material related to immunization as it relates to established, new, and emerging pathogens. The Public Health Physician 2 will directly oversee one or more units within the Bureau of Immunization (e.g., Clinical Immunization Unit and School Assessment Unit) to include supervision of staff and programmatic direction. They will also participate in planning and response activities for outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics, such as pandemic influenza, as well as other applicable duties as assigned.

Additional Comments Permanent, non-competitive. Interested candidates that do not possess, but are eligible for, a license and registration to practice medicine in NYS may apply. However, if selected, the license and registration to practice medicine in NYS must be obtained before an appointment can be made.
