Minimum Qualifications Provisional:
Open to the public- ? a bachelor’s degree, including or supplemented by 21 semester credit hours in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surveying, cartography, LiDAR and/or photogrammetry; AND

? nine additional semester credit hours in any combination of cartography, LiDAR, photogrammetry, GIS, computer science, remote sensing, photo interpretation, statistics, and/or surveying. AND

? two years of professional experience making recommendations and decisions relating to the selection, planning, and production of mapping projects and independent research and evaluation activities which require the knowledge and application of the technical principles and practices of GIS and/or photogrammetry.

You must include, with your application, a transcript or a list of qualifying courses showing the name of the course, the number of semester credit hours, dates of completion, the college or university attended, and whether the course is at the graduate or undergraduate level.

**Experience limited to Computer Aided Design (CAD) use or GIS user production of thematic overlays to such base maps or to generate system-produced GIS maps will NOT be considered as appropriate experience.

Substitution: A master’s degree in cartography, photogrammetry, surveying, or GIS, that includes at least 12 graduate credits in cartography, LiDAR, and/or photogrammetry, can be substituted for the educational requirement and for up to one year of the required experience.

Promotion- one year of permanent competitive status as a Mapping Technologist 1 or Mapping Technician 3.

Duties Description The Mapping Technologist 2, SG-20, is assigned to Planning & Analysis Bureau of the
Division of Environmental Stewardship & Planning in the Albany – Main Office location
and will report to the Environmental Program Specialist 2 (Natural Resources), SG-23.
Duties and Tasks include but are not limited to:
• Manage the Data Migration project to digitize, update and streamline mapping and
geographic information system (GIS) data files
• Oversee the research, development, implementation, and maintenance of the
mapping component for the Empire State Trail (EST) website
• Manage the research, development, implementation, and maintenance of the
mapping component of the NYS Parks Explorer Application
• Oversee DESP management of ArcGIS Online including creation and
management of user accounts and authoritative data, and development of appand workflow-solutions.
• Collaborate, assess, and direct mapping and GIS projects and tasks with and
among staff across the agency
• Use photogrammetric workstations for the compilation of complex mapping and
digital terrain models (DTMs) following standard specifications and procedures
• Assist in planning and evaluation of aerial photography obtained via DESP Drone
program
• Assign and manage smaller projects involving trail mapping and data updating, as
well as provide technical support between the Albany – Main Office and regional
staff
• Supervise the Mapping Technician 2, SG-16
• Oversee seasonal and contract staff assigned to the Statistical & Resource
Analysis Uni
