Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis. Experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing and mechanical trades is preferred.
In accordance with union contract, this position is anticipated to be filled by an eligible DEC - CSEA Operations Services
Unit 03 employee who meets the minimum qualifications.
Duties Description The Trades Generalist will train and supervise subordinate maintenance staff. The incumbent will be responsible for the methods, material, tools, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of buildings, roads, parking lots, and site development. This position requires a working knowledge of DEC regulations, OSHA, NYS building, plumbing, and electrical codes. The incumbent will be required to use tools, machines, equipment, and materials of the construction and maintenance trades including but not limited to circular saws, power miter saws, chainsaws and drills. The incumbent will be required to transport and operate heavy equipment including but not limited to bulldozers, skid steers, man lifts, excavators, forklifts, and backhoes. The incumbent will be responsible for planning and laying out work from an established work plan, diagnose building mechanical system problems and perform the required repairs. The incumbent must be able to read and interpret plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications for building construction and rehabilitation projects. The incumbent will be required to understand, provide, and carry out written and oral instructions. The incumbent will also be required to perform work from heights by ladder, scaffold, or man lift and will be required to perform work over open water, by boat, or floating dock.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction. By checking the box requiring a CDL, I certify that this position requires a CDL to successfully perform the duties for this position. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 100 pounds.
