Minimum Qualifications License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State AND successful completion of a residency training program in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approved medical specialty OR American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) certification in a medical specialty.

Medical Specialist 1, SG-35:
Salary: $222,697

License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State AND successful completion of a residency training program in an ACGME approved medical specialty.

OR

Medical Specialist 2, SG-38:
Salary: $223,510

License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State AND ABMS certification in a medical specialty.

Limited Permit Option: You may be eligible if you are licensed in another state or by written examination in Canada AND have a current limited permit to practice medicine in New York State. If appointed, you must obtain your license within one year of the date your limited permit was issued. Failure to do so will result in removal from your position.

Duties Description As a Medical Specialist, you would actively participate in diagnosing and treating patients within your specialized field and you would advise and confer with members of other disciplines so that patients may receive the benefits of an overall specialized program of care. Medical Specialists 2 serve as senior practicing specialists within a recognized discipline of medicine. Medical Specialists 1 serve as junior practicing specialists within a recognized discipline of medicine.

Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
