Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have a master’s degree or higher in education, public policy, or public administration AND four years of professional experience in elementary, secondary, or post-secondary education; or in an education oversight agency. Two years of this experience must include management, oversight, or supervision of intercultural/multicultural education programs or educational programs for the disadvantaged. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Associate in Intercultural Relations when it is next offered, and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Associate in Intercultural Relations in the Charter School Office. This position will be filled in Albany or Brooklyn. The vision of the Charter School Office is to create a diverse portfolio of innovative charter schools that produce strong outcomes through a rigorous new school process, strong performance oversight and accountability, and model authorizing practices. The charter schools authorized by the New York State Board of Regents will serve as exemplars for all public schools in New York State and across the country. Under the direction of the CSO Director and the CSO Supervisor of Education Programs, the selected candidate will conduct performance oversight and evaluation activities for the portfolio of charter schools directly authorized by the Board of Regents. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
• Serve as the primary CSO liaison to an assigned portfolio of Regents-authorized charter schools, by writing reports, managing and coordinating site visits, directing and supporting consultant activities, drafting revision and renewal Regents items, and reviewing school-specific documents and requests. Forty percent travel is required, with the amount varying throughout the year;
• Assist with the process to establish new charter schools, by reviewing applications, conducting review panel rating meetings, participating in capacity interviews, and drafting Regents items;
• Assist in the review and update of CSO protocols, templates and processes;
• Participate in CSO data, site visit, renewal application webinars and meetings;
• Communicate verbally and in writing with CSO staff, NYSED staff, charter school personnel and charter school board of trustee members;
• Work collaboratively with other CSO staff to ensure the incorporation of relevant data into evaluation reports and with other colleagues who serve as liaisons to Regents-authorized charter schools to ensure the timely and effective coordination and completion of monitoring and evaluation work;
• Complete requests from Supervisors or the Director to ensure the deliverables of the office are being met; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment or a temporary provisional appointment. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Associate in Intercultural Relations when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. (55b/c eligible) For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree/transcripts will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position will require 30% in-state travel.
This position leads to a maximum salary of $114,393 based on annual performance advances.
