Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Valid NYS Drivers License Required. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators.

*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.

Duties Description FIRE SAFETY: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks in testing the University at Albany's Eyewash, Shower and Drench Hose stations, and Fire Hydrants. Ability to perform semi-skilled work in inspecting and testing the University at Albany's Emergency Lighting & Exit Sign Systems. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., capable of working at heights, both platform and ladders, up to 20 ft, ability to walk and climb stairs, ability to navigate MS Office Suite and Apple products. Valid NYS Driver's License. Ability to work alone as well as in a team environment. Shift/Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm.

PAINT SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks to assist painters in such activities as preparing and cleaning surfaces prior to painting, applying paint while learning the trade, cleaning painting tools and equipment, unloading paint supplies, and cleaning work area; Ability to work at heights on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts; May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts to accommodate workload; Ability to enter and retrieve work orders from a computerized maintenance management system; Valid NYS Driver's License required. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 6am-2:30pm.

RESIDENCE HALL MAINTENANCE: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks; repair mortise locks, adjust interior doors/replace/ shim hinges as needed. Ability to replace electrical ballasts, switches, and receptacles. Ability to do plumbing repairs on sinks, toilets, and showers. Ability to replace floor and ceiling tiles, repair and replace window treatments, re-lamp, and repair lighting fixtures, and replace towel bars and hardware. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm

CARPENTRY SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks; ability to carry ladders and materials; work from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts; remove/install flooring, ceilings, windows, walls, and doors; ability to safely operate stationary power tools, table saw, wet saw, multiple hand power tools; plan and complete assignments with independence, ability to work overtime as required. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm

ELECTRICAL SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks; ability to maintain lighting systems using power tools as well as hand tools; ability to troubleshoot and repair problems with switches, relays, occupancy sensors, ballasts, and lamps; ability to climb ladders, and work at heights; possess a basic understanding of electrical systems and safety. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm

ROOF SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks including carrying ladders, tools, and materials. Remove, patch, and install brick, block, stone, and concrete for repairs. Identify and repair various roofing materials such as Epdm rubber, asphalt, shingles, and slate to keep them watertight. Use hand and power tools safely. Be aware of your surroundings and create a safe working environment. Shift/Hours: Monday thru Friday 5am to 130 pm.

PLUMBING SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks; repairing, maintaining, and installing plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, shower baths, commodes, drinking fountains, dishwashers, valves including pneumatic controls, gas and water meters, gas hot water heaters and other gas appliances, heating systems and controls, and various steam equipment used in kitchens and machine rooms, water pumps and water system equipment. Ability to assist in new installations and making alterations to existing installations. Ability to assembles and installs a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, joins piping by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints. Ability to test pipe system for leaks by filling with liquid or air and reading pressure gauges. May weld holding fixtures to steel members. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm
