Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: bachelor’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, and either: satisfactory completion of a two-year traineeship or two years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools
*Substitution: A master’s degree in the above fields may substitute for one year of the specialized experience. A Ph.D. in the above fields may substitute for two years of the specialized experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Insurance, Medicaid preferred, 2 year of SQL experience working with large datasets preferred, 2 years tableau visualizations preferred.
Duties Description This position will be part of the new Databooks and Advanced Analytics Unit within the Bureau of Data Insights & Research. The Data Analyst 1 will produce real-time data visualizations for the Office of Health Insurance Programs. The unit will work across the Bureau and Office, meeting with program area leads to understand their program monitoring needs, working with the Data Analytics 2 and other OHIP divisions on their Medicaid use cases to enhance analytics. • Works with business units to develop and build models in support of Medicaid analytic use cases.
• Assists in the preparation of reports and/or data analysis activities based on both data trends and reviews of other state Medicaid programs to monitor Medicaid enrollment, spending, access, and service utilization and prepare reports of research findings for division management.
• Performs data extraction, aggregation, and quality checks on Medicaid data from multiple sources and tables in support of trend identification and root cause analysis for performance metrics
