Minimum Qualifications for taking the Open Competitive Examination: Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty, or current comparable Emergency COVID-19 certificate.
TEACHER 4/SG-17
Minimum Qualifications for taking the Open Competitive Examination: Current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty, or current comparable Emergency COVID-19 certificate; AND, two years of post-certification (provisional/initial or permanent/professional) teaching experience in that same specialty.
COVID-19 Certifications: Applicants who apply with the COVID-19 certificate must obtain their initial or professional certificate to remain employed. When applying for the examination and filling out the online questionnaire, you should select the initial or professional certificate you intend to obtain before the expiration of your COVID-19 certificate. Not having an initial or professional certificate after the expiration of your COVID-19 certificate will be considered a loss of certification and will result in termination of employment.
*If you apply for the High School Equivalency Preparation examination(s), you must possess New York State Certification in one of the following: English Language Arts 7-12, Mathematics 7-12, Social Studies 7-12, Reading, Literacy, Biology 7-12, Earth Science 7-12, Chemistry 7-12, and/or Physics 7-12.
Duties Description Instruct a course in an academic discipline, as recognized by the New York State Education Department; prepare or modify curriculum and course outlines; prepare daily or weekly lesson plans; devise methods and conduct evaluations of the performance and progress if learners; administer standard subject matter test to determine a learner’s proper achievement in the subject field; conduct class sessions; prepare written reports describing learners progress and/or behavior.
